Following a demand from Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN, the Court of The Hague has ruled that Dutch ISPs Ziggo and XS4ALL must ban customer access to the Pirate Bay. In the two ISPs' case against BREIN, the ISPs argued that imposing filters (much like the debate over SOPA in the States) could compromise the security of their networks, threaten freedom of speech, and ultimately probably wouldn't work anyway. The Court didn't see things that way, noting that roughly 30% of Ziggo subscribers and 4.5% of XS4ALL subscribers use The Pirate Bay to share copyrighted content. Both ISPs now have ten days to implement filters or face fines of 10,000 euros per day.
