The FCC has officially signed off on Time Warner Cable's planned acquisition of Insight Communications, after the FTC approved the deal last fall. The deal gives Time Warner Cable an additional 750,000 broadband, voice and TV customers in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Most of the companies interested in acquiring Insight Communications had dropped out of the bidding process, turned off by Insight owner Carlyle Group's steep $4 billion price tag. Waiting paid off for Time Warner Cable, who was among the first to balk at the price -- but was ultimately able to grab Insight for $3 billion. The companies say nothing will change for customers until after the deal closes, which is expected to be after July 1.
